I Believe in Perseverence by Sarah Garbers
I believe in perseverence. A few weeks ago, I watched the Husker volleyball team play against #1 ranked Penn State in the finals. At the beginning of the game, it didn't seem like they were going to win, but took two of the five sets. Penn State was a team that hadn't lost a set all year and Nebraska, the team that was supposed to be rebuilding this year almost beat them. The Huskers didn't win, but played their best. The volleyball would have never gotten this far had they given up. That is why I believe in perseverence.
Perseverence, according to dictionary.com, is the steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. Many things would not be here if people hadn't had perseverence. The United States wouldn't be here had the colonies not revolted. The civil rights movement was another example of perseverence. Most often today we hear about underdog teams in sports (like Nebraska) having perseverence to overcome obstacles and win.
At times I don't feel like having any perseverence. In school if something seems too hard, at home doing chores, or getting along with people. If everyone had that attitude all the time, the world wouldn't be able to function. Everyone at one time or another has had perseverence. Everyone has had to try hard to overcome an obstacle.
A problem I've had to persevere through is school. A lot of times I get frustrated with homework or the teachers. Sometimes I do bad on a quiz or test, so I have to work harder to get an A and do better. Or if I forget to do an assignment, I work to makeup for it. If I had just given up, I would have gotten a bad grade or not even do my homework.
I believe in perseverence. The Nebraska volleyball is a prime example of perseverence. Although they didn't win the national championship, they won the Big 12 and games that they weren't supposed to win. If everyone went through life like that, the world would be a better place.
