I Believe in Sports by Robert Kolterman
I believe in being involved and active in sports. All my life I have been a part of competitive sporting activities. I have had the opportunity to experiment and be part of a large variety of sporting activities and enjoyed almost every experience. It has been great to work with so many wonderful athletes and coaches, training and sharing the joys of winning and losing. I believe in sports!
While I have not excelled in every sport, I can say I tried it and have great memories as a result. My parents involved me early on with many of my sporting experiences. Like so many, I enjoyed T-ball, recreation basketball, baseball, swimming, football and soccer through the City Recreation programs.
My sporting activities at St. John Lutheran School in Seward were all terrific memories. I will always remember the great basketball teams we built and fun games, involving my best friends. I learned to play football, basketball and run track at St. John and still have great memories of those activities. My high school sporting activities have all been great learning experiences for me too. I have played football, run cross country, been involved in the SHS track and field program and of course, enjoyed basketball too. Each participation created a lesson and challenges and I am glad I spent my time involved in these activities.
There are so many positive reasons to be involved with sports. First of all, it is good for you to stay active. After a long day of school or work, it is fun to run and jump and just move about. I feel better after working out and know I am healthier because of the sports activity. I also have met and still meet many terrific people though sports. So many of these outstanding athletes have a strong work ethic and I learn a lot from them. They are great role models for me and I have learned to listen and gain so much from working with these great athletes.
Finally, it is just fun to be involved in sports. It is challenging and often makes me become focused on the goal of winning, while it also teaches me about losing and sportsmanship. Sports are educational. I learn much from my travels, because of sports. I love to read and follow sports teams too. It is entertaining to watch sports and so many great friendships have resulted from my involvement with sports. So many great mentors and coaches have shared their knowledge with me, concerning specific sports. To be associated and friends with these coaches and sports leaders is a wonderful opportunity.
My personal activity with sports, my experiences resulting from being involved in sports and the positive relationships gained through sports, make sports a very important aspect of my life. I encourage everyone to become active in sports. I want to become a physical education teacher and dedicate my life to helping keep young adults active, giving others the opportunities so many have given me. I believe in sports!
