I Believe in Farming by Jared Kouma

I believe in farming. Farming allows us to eat and is the reason we survive. I love the green in the spring, when the hills have a carpet of green. I love the fall is when the ground is open and the harvest moon is out! I love the summer and the growing crops and the winter when feed cattle and plan for the next year. I believe in farming. It is a way of life for me.

I love to look at the land that we farm just as the crops are coming up. I enjoy the green tint that is there! When the sun shines on it just right, it sparkles! I am excited when I am on the tractor and I look back to see the soil that has been turned over and see how dirk and pretty it looks compared to the soil that hasn't been plowed. It is great when the planter is empty. It means the field is planted and the work will really begin. Now you have to go back up to the truck to fill up the seed from the truck to the planter for the next field. I look forward to dinner or supper time where I get to take a break to see what the land looks like after a long day's work. When the sun goes down and it is time to stop for the day, I always sleep well because I have worked hard. You can see all that you accomplished that day and plan what you will do tomorrow.

Every day in farming is different. I enjoy being outdoors and the changeling way of life, as I work with nature. Farming is a family effort, as everyone has responsibilities and jobs to do to keep the operation running smooth. Anything worth saving requires work.

Farming is work but the end result is worth it and the rewards are many. A field of crops is a testimony to hours of hard work and effort. The harvest is the ultimate reward for the labor to that field and says to the world job well done! I believe in farming.
