I Believe in Performing by Kyrie Knickerbocker
There are many different ways to perform, like singing, acting, dancing and many other ways. When I think of performing I think of Winter Guard. Winter Guard is one way to express my feelings. It lets me show people something they haven't seen me do before. I believe in performing.
It is amazing to perform for Winter Guard competitions. We perform as one big group. Before we perform we have to get our hair done and all our make-up on. Just those two things can be stressful, because there are a lot of girls and not enough time. We have to put on colorful eye shadow, bright pink lipstick, braid our bangs, and put on our outfits. To help us do this in a better mood, we crank up the tunes to put us in that performance mode.
Each year there is a different theme for the show. My first year the theme was rain forest/African. The song was Rainmaker by Yanni. The show was a really fast pace, and a crowd pleaser. However, this year's show was a slower pace, it was a whole different show. It was Two Sisters, Two Paths. The song was called Already Home by Ha-Ash. The show had a story behind it and while we performed to it we told the story. The story is about two sisters and one sister drops out of high school, becomes addicted to drugs and has a terrible life. The other sister is the valedictorian of her high school, gets married and has a career, but misses her sister terribly. At the end of the show the end up finding each other. So, the show has a happy ending. When we performed this show, it made people cry. We love the show, and loved performing it for competitions.
When I am performing the only thing on my mind is doing my best. I think about what I have to do, how I should perform and not to drop any weapons or flags. Once you get on that floor that's were you leave it all. You give it your best every time, you only think about the show and what move you have to do next. You might feel like you look funny because of the faces you have to make or the moves, but the more you exaggerated the better the show is. The more you put into it, the more the crowd gets into it. After you are done performing you feel amazing. Everyone feels like we did it better every time, even if we don't win we know we did are best, and we know how amazing it felt to be out there.
In conclusion, performing in front of people many not be fun for you or your favorite thing, but it is for me. I love the feeling of forgetting everything and just performing the show for everyone and hearing the applause after its over. I believe in performing.
