This I Believe in Key Club by Holli Luff
Key Club is an international, student-led organization providing its members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership. This organization is a wonderful one at that. It creates wonderful opportunities. It was started by California State Commissioner of Schools Albert C. Olney and vocational education teacher Frank C. Vincent, who together worked to establish the first Key Club at Sacramento High School in California, on May 7, 1925. Female students were first admitted in 1976, eleven years before women were admitted to the sponsoring organization, Kiwanis International. Because of these wonderful men this club has come to help so many! I believe in Key Club. The meaning of the club is plain and simple. It is to develop leadership, to provide experience in living and working together, to serve the school and community, to cooperate with the school principal, to prepare for useful citizenship, I believe in Key Club. These kids put their hearts and souls into some of their projects. They are really trying to help people. When someone asks them to help they don't ask Why? They ask Why not? I believe in Key Club.
Key Clubbers are like our super hero's you see in comics. I say this because they seem to be everyday people. Yet alone they are capable of extraordinary things. There have been service projects around Seward that you have not even known about and then some that you have. One of the most commonly known is the Trick-or-treat for UNICIF. The organization maintains strong partnerships with UNICEF, AYUSA Global Youth Exchange, the March of Dimes, and Children's Miracle Network Telethon. Through the partnership with UNICEF, a major initiative was launched in the summer of 2005 to address HIV/AIDS education and prevention in Kenya.
Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students in the world. Key Club is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Key Club International provides members opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Key Clubs thrive on more than 5,000 high school campuses in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. Key Club encourages volunteering and fund raising for March of Dimes, UNICEF, and the Childcare's Miracle Network. Since 1925, Key Club International has provided more than 12 million hours of service to homes, schools, and communities each year. This I believe in Key Club.
