I Believe in Running by J.P. Rech

Many people say running is dumb, worthless, and boring. These people have no idea because they are the ones that make running boring and haven t experienced the runners high. I say that running is pleasant, worth my time, and exciting. Running is actually one of the easiest sports believe it or not because all you have to do is warm up and go. There are no complicating plays or drills you must learn. I believe in running.

I get many questions about running and why I run. Running gives you a sense of pride and achievement. After completing a run you realize what you have accomplished and that is what builds confidence. Running also provides freedom. If you think of it you can run in any direction, down any path, and go as fast or slow as you wish. When I'm stressed out and just want to get away I usually just go on a nice long run to clear my mind. Even though I might be in pain and be dripping in sweat I feel great because I can't believe what I just did.

As I step up to the line at the beginning of the race many thoughts are going through my mind and my heart is beating out of my chest. When the gun fires everyone takes off like a stampede. Once the race gets going all the fans are cheering you on and that gets the adrenaline pumping. While I m running I want to stop because my body is telling me different things. My body hurts but I tell myself that I need to keep going. Once you turn that corner and see that finish line it is unbelievable. The adrenaline starts pumping even more and your heart is beating even faster. You start to run faster to try and beat the competitors around you. You hear fans roaring. It feels as if you are going to pass out and you finish.

Some people don't even view running as a sport. But in fact running is the oldest sport in the world. When the Olympics first started the only event they had was running. I view running as more of a mental sport than a physical sport. Yeah you have to be able to have endurance and be fit but you have to have determination, self-encouragement and other mental strengths. If you're going to go on a run, make it fun and take it nice and easy. By taking it nice and easy it gives you time to relax, think and observe the world.

Running is about having fun and running what you believe is far. Anyone can run as long as they have a good pair of shoes and the determination to do so. There is a man by the name of Kurt Holliday and he once said Just Run. And that is so true no matter who you are, so get up and just run. This is why I believe in running.
