I Believe in Cyberspace by Evan Reeder

There is a place out there where you never get harmed, if you are careful. This is a world where all technology meets as one and forms new technology. You use this every day without thinking. If you text, use Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter then you use it. Without it we would be in the dim-ages of technology. This real world of make believe is cyberspace. I believe in Cyberspace.

What exactly is cyberspace? Cyberspace is a metaphor for describing the non-physical terrain created by computer systems. Which means it's a non real reality. So it's really a nerd's happy place. Everyone has access to cyberspace as long as they can log into a network. Many people confuse Cyberspace with the internet, but that is like squares and rectangles, Cyberspace is the internet, but the internet isn't cyberspace.

Cyberspace can be a useful tool for research in that it provides information that is given and received. Cyberspace involves objects such as files, documents, email and graphics, and different modes of transportation. However unlike real space, exploring cyberspace doesn't require any mode of physical transportation. Just you and your chair are all that are needed, unless you step into the virtual world of cyberspace.

Some forms of cyberspace specifically computer programs can create a form of virtual reality. Virtual reality is a computer simulated environment. While graphics are still not as keen as reality that day will come. Who knows maybe some day we will live in an Avatar like world. Some are even advanced enough to react in real-time. This is a huge step for everything. Surgeons can practice a hard surgery so they won't screw things up when it comes to the real thing. Fighter pilots can learn to fly in a simulator which mimics real world conditions that might cause them to crash, but not damage a three million aircraft.

Why do I believe in cyberspace? It is a nerd's happy place; it is a useful research tool, and can save money by training people. Just think what this world would be without social media like Facebook and You Tube that would be a dim and boring world. We wouldn't have new and emerging forms of technology. This is why I believe in cyberspace.
