This I Believe: Softball by Rhiannon
Brown dirt, green grass, white chalk and a grass-stain green ball. Best friends, new people, summer tans and memories I'll never forget. I believe in softball. The best friends you make, the respect you gain and the fun you have all come from softball.
I wouldn't trade my softball friends for anything in the world. They are not only my friends but my teammates also. We work together, play together and have fun together all because of softball. Spending so much time together, funny things are bound to happen, water fights and inside jokes are only a few of the many unforgettable memories I've made. I believe in softball.
There are many examples of gaining respect from playing softball. Knowing what to do with a ball with all bases loaded, or how to move when you get up to bat are great skills to have play softball. It also helps you gain respect for yourself. On a softball team no one can do everything, you have to work together to accomplish a goal, on in this case winning a game or tournament. Having to work together makes you gain respect in what you can do and also the areas that others excel in, a first basemen excels in being a good catcher and also being able to think fast and an outfielder excels in knowing how, when and where to move according to the changing batters. In a way it forces you to respect yourself and others. I believe in softball.
The final ingredient, and the most important in my opinion, is having fun. Softball is a game, and should be fun. Without fun the game becomes useless. It teaches you no to take things too seriously and to notice the little improvements you and others make, be it hitting a ball or earning more runs. This is not only necessary in a game like softball but it s also a life lesson. I believe in softball.
From the friends I've made, to the tans I've gotten, to the lessons I've learned. Softball is a well rounded sport. This is why I believe in softball.
