I Believe in Recovery by Wayne Smith
I believe in recovery from alcoholism and drug abuse because if I wouldn't have found recovery I probably wouldn't be able to write this report. I first started drinking and using drugs when I was about 12-13 years old. My life was not the best and I wasn't the best person to be around at the time. After a fight with my father, I would go over to my mother's place and drink. My father, who didn't find out about my drinking habits until recently would be upset, because after I got home stumbling through the door, he would always ask me what I was doing home so late and why I was always falling over.
I thought that after my step father died, I would be able to stop drinking. But I was wrong, because my drinking increased. My father kept me away from my mom to find out what was going on with me. I was drinking at my mother's place and my dad suspected it.
I started using prescription drugs when the alcohol was not available. Sometimes I would mix the two together and that was not a good thing to do!! I have been to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous before, but I only went to kill time. I also used pot to drown out the problems of school, home and family troubles.
There are three reasons why I believe in recovery. One-it saved my life as well as many other peoples lives, two-the programs that are available are the one place where you can always go to that will be open to you no matter what, with open arms. Number three - the recovery programs are a good way to express how you feel about a variety of things in your life. I personally want to invite you to come and join your local programs of recovery!!
I now understand that I don't need to use drugs or drink any more. Now I have the privilege of going to Alcoholics Anonymous as well as Narcotics Anonymous. I have been clean for two weeks now!! I thank God for the gift of recovery!!!! I believe in second chances and I believe in recovery!!
