I Believe in the Fine Arts by Hayli Frosheiser

For me, there's nothing more exciting and stirring than a good piece of art or selection of music. I think I can safely say that these two things, art and music, are vital in our lives as humans. We all feel some connection to a musical piece or a drawing that we sense explains something deep within the human soul that can't easily be described by mere words alone. Fine arts are my passion and I know there are many people in this world who share my view and maybe a handful others who are a bit skeptical. Well, I have a few good reasons as to why the fine arts are so important. I believe in the fine arts.

Music and art give people the power to express themselves. When you put that first stroke of paint across the canvas or play the first note of a song, you are beginning a story. It could be a story of pain, joy, love, or humorous things. Endless possibilities await anyone who dares to pour their heart and soul into something so creative as art and music. Only your artistic vision can decide how the story will progress and, ultimately, come to an end. It's your story to tell, so you might as well make it was wild, vivid, or maybe even as somber as you'd like.

The fine arts are also very therapeutic. Nothing feels better to me than writing and singing an uplifting song or creating a scene of beauty with a pencil. When drawing or creating melodies, I can relax and not worry about the stress of whatever's going on around me. Sometimes, it helps me focus on certain tasks at hand, but other times, the arts allow for an escape. I build my own fortress of creativity in which God, my heart, and my mind are the only things present to focus on. There's nothing outside of that fortress at the time and it's the most amazing experience that I can't even begin to be put into words.

Music and art can help others feel strong emotions as well. There's a sense of accomplishment when someone looks at your art and can smile at the bright colors painstakingly strewn across the canvas, or when they listen to your heart-breaking ballad and begin to shed tears of understanding. You share a part of yourself in the artistic things that you do and when you nurture and care for that art, others will appreciate both the art and the artist themselves. People know that it takes bravery to expose your thoughts in front of others and that can create strong feelings in the observer as well.

These reasons are the very foundation for my belief in the value of art and music. Music is integrated in our very bodies from our heartbeats to our thought processes and art is present all around us in nature. Don't think that the list ends here. The fine arts influence us in endless ways and the only way to fully understand it is to experience the creativity firsthand. This endlessness of possibilities is exactly why I believe in art and music. I believe in the fine arts.
