I Believe in Duct Tape by Ian Hendrickson
So, you're working on your car and your little brother is helping you. You need different tools every now and then, so you ask your bro. "Hammer" - "Screwdriver" - "Wrench" - "Duct tape" -yeah that's right, I said duct tape. The mirror's falling off, so what do you grab? Duct tape. The bumper is about to drop off. Duct tape. It's a part of our life style. There is a fascinating history behind duct tape. There are many things you can make out of duct tape. There are also many other uses of duct tape. I believe in duct tape.
In 385 BC there was a man by the name of Aristotle Duck. He was a carpenter and was very good at his job, however there was one problem. He had a hole in the north facing wall of his house. He tried to fix it many times before, but nothing worked well enough to keep the drafts out in winter. So one day he went out into the woods to look for something to fix the hole with. As he was walking, his toga got caught on some pine sap and it got ripped off. When he bent down to inspect the damage to his fine clothing he was surprised to find out it was just sap that had ripped it. He then proceeded to take the piece of sappy toga home. When he placed it on the hole, it stayed and he started selling it and making a fortune. However he didn't like how popular he was so he dropped the "Duck" part of his name.
NOT! It was invented around World War II, and was used to seal ammunition cases. After the soldiers saw how well it could seal their boxes, they started sealing up many other things such as tanks, air planes, military vehicles, and other military equipment. After the war the housing industry boomed. Homeowners soon noticed a leak and needed something to seal the air ducts. Some military guy must have said something about their duck tape being water proof and a bystander put two and two together and they used duck tape for their leaky air ducts. The name was then changed to "duct tape". Then the color was changed from an army-olive green to a regular grey. And that's the way the cookie crumbles! You can make many things out of duct tape. You can make things such as hats, coats, pants, belts, ties, flip flops, rings, bags, wallets, book covers, pencil cases, cell phone cases, iPod/MP3 Player cases, miniskirts, purses, flowers, back packs, blankets, water bottle holder, bracelets, book marks, bowls, bras, bull whip, chains, knife cases, pillows, vests, folders, shoes, playing card cases, and much, much more! I have made several of the previously stated items such as belts, ties, wallets, bracelets, MP3 Player case, flowers, and my personal favorite, a duct tape jacket.
As you can see, you can make many things out of duct tape. There are also many other uses of duct tape. You can seal things like that leaky ammo box that's just lying around. You can also make your personal belongings, such as your helicopter, tank, machine guns, air planes, cars, trucks, and SUV's waterproof by coating them in duct tape. You can fix your car. You can also seal a leaky roof or air duct and much, much more.
I believe in duct tape. There is one thing a "southern boy" will never say, "I don't think duct tape will fix it this time." Duct tape was invented around World War II, you can make many things out of duct tape, and you can fix many things with duct tape. Just remember, when in doubt, use duct tape, because duct tape is like the force, it has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the entire universe together.
