I Believe in Parents by Shayna Iron Shell
Who's always there for you? Who taught you how to ride a bike? Who spends quality time with you? Who do you see everyday? It's obvious it's your parents. Your parents are the most important thing in your life. They gave you life. Without them, you would not be here today. When dealing with life, and all the troubles it comes with, they are always there for you. They have open arms waiting when you had a rough day at school, they have a dry shoulder waiting to get soaked by your tears, they talk to you when you feel frustrated, most importantly, they love you unconditionally. I believe in parents.
Parents do quite a bit for us that we can sometimes take for granted. Us as children probably don't thank them enough for what they do. Parents give us advice; they tell us what is right and wrong, what a good decision is, what's not, and what the consequences are for that decision. They comfort us when we cry. They help us with our homework. And they may even go to a job they don't like to provide for us. Parents are the glue that binds us together. Parents are everything.
Sometimes we think our parents can be terrible people, but granted, they're just doing their job. Yes, they have us do chores, but so we can take care of ourselves when we are old enough to live on our own. We're all part of a family and everyone has to pitch in, and it teaches us major responsibility. They may raise their voice at us from time to time, but it's because we didn't tell them where we were or we didn't do something they asked us to do. They nag us about our schoolwork, but it's so we can get good grades, pass high school and get into college. They make us eat all different kinds of gross food that we don't even like. Only so we don't end up like one of those people off of Freaky Eaters. They do all of the things we think are irritating for a good reason.
Parents' expectations of us are extremely high. They expect us to do well in school, get good grades, pass high school, and go to college. If we weren't doing this, we wouldn't be a successful person later on in life. They expect us to be kind, polite, and respectful, have appropriate behavior, and respect our elders; because if we weren't to do these things, we wouldn't be good people. Also do well in band, sports, choir and other extracurricular activities. If we weren't to do that, we wouldn't be able to participate in these extracurricular activities if we were to fail classes. Also, have proper hygiene, have proper manners, go to bed on time, and dress appropriately. We wouldn't want to be a rude smelly kid, would we? They do this because they want us to be classy, appropriate, impressive children.
Parents know what's best for us. Parents are always there for us. They do everything they can for us. They sacrifice everything they want and even need just for us. They know we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. This is because of our parents. Parents are always there for us. So, thank your parents for everything they do, because we all take our parents for granted and we are never guaranteed another day with them.
