I Believe in Horses by Traci Kloppel
I still remember the first time I got to ride a horse all by myself for the first time. I thought it was the greatest thing in the world. But from that day forward I have loved horses ever since. I believe in horses.
The first time I ever got to show a horse all by myself, I was so excited; I was young then though and could only walk and trot. But just doing that I still had a great time. As I got older I slowly worked my way up to being able to lope. Now that I am 15 I have learned to canter.
I think that being able to ride and have horses is a great and wonderful thing. Because even if you are showing or just riding around having fun you feel somewhat happy and free. Like now there are used for handicapped and mental illness kids and adults. For rehabilitation and therapy. From some of the things that I have heard about it is that it makes those people feel happy and like they have some type of freedom.
For the uses of horses, back in the old days they were used for about ever thing from farming to going in to town. Now because we have motor vehicles all horses are used for just going out and riding. They also compete in shows to see what horse is the best in that area. Examples of these shows are the 4H county fair horse shows; they also still have draft horse shows.
Now the market for buying a horse has gone down. Back in the early 1800's, from when they could sell a good horse for a cost around 10 to 15 dollars. Now days you can buy a good broke horse for about 100 dollars. Hope that someday the market will improve to where people would like to have them just to have them.
