I Believe in Farming by Cody Nuttleman
The sole fact is, farming is my life! I have been on a farm for my entire life. It allows me to be around nature and I rely on "Mother Nature" to take care of the world. This allows me to be down to earth with God. Farming is also my dream, yet come true. I believe in farming.
I like springtime, when everything is starting to grow. We start to get the planter out of the shop to plant corn and other crops. It is really amazing when you can look out over the field and see only green. I think to myself I helped plant these seeds and now look at them, they are now growing; It makes me feel so good inside that I have accomplished something good.
Another part of farming I enjoy is when we have animals. It is really cool when they become pregnant and watch the cow's belly get bigger. When the time comes, it is great to watch the calf be born. Then over time, you will watch it grow up and fatten it for food. When the calf has reached its weight, then it is slaughtered and made into steaks.
Then at the end of the year the biggest job comes rolling around: harvest. This is the most important part of the year and the most fun. This is when you see all the big equipment running down the road. You see them in the fields at night, combining away with the harvest moon shining bright. This is my favorite season, this is when the late nights begin and don't stop until the task has been completed.
Every day in farming is different. I enjoy being outdoors and the challenging way of life as I work with nature. Farming is a family effort, as everyone has responsibilities and jobs to do to keep the operation running smooth. Anything worth saving requires work. You must have the passion for the job. I believe in farming.
