This I Believe, Music by Bethany Rexus

This I believe in Music. The art of music has been used to entertain and bring together people since the beginning of time. It touches a part of your soul that noone can explain, and can bring out the worst or best in people, and as said by Aldous Huxley "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Music can be used to express, Love, hate, heartache and sadness. Many artists not only use there music as there living, but there escape, there drug and there healer. For example country singer Reba McEntire said, quote. "For me, singing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open into the light, out of the darkness." I cannot agree more with Reba, as a fairly music oriented person myself, singing and song writing can be used as a method of healing or expression. Writing the song and singing the lyrics helps get out the inner turmoil the artist is dealing with, and overall those songs sung from the heart, are some of the most succesfull. For example, Poisons hit song, still played on the radio today, "Every Rose has its thorn" from there second album "Open up and say - Ahh!" was written by lead singer Bret Michael. Michaels said the inspiration for the song came from a night when he was in a laundromat waiting for his clothes to dry, and called his girlfriend on a pay phone. Michaels said he heard a male voice in the background and was devastated; he said he went into the laundromat and wrote "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" as a result. Its almost silly, thinking that something such as a girl cheating on you could open up your creative musical mind to write a hit like that. But Poison is not alone in this, many bands and artists throughout history have written there sadness and love sick filled songs that have climbed the charts and made them known, when at the same time healing there broken selves. But music isn't only healing for the artists, how many articles have you seen on music being a major factor in medicine and surgery? For example, have you ever wondered why the dentist played music in the background while drilling at your teeth? Its because its scientifically proven that the right genre of music, usually classical or soft rock in the dentists case, sooths the mind and in turn relaxes the body and mouth for them to have an easier time opperating. Amazing isn't it? Sadly, music and other arts are being stripped from our educational system thanks to recent issues in funding, and before anything else, these are the programs to go. But, I strongly believe that music, among other arts, are one of the most important things being provided in schools today. Talk to almost anyone, there favorite classes or experiences in highschool, were things like, music or art class, or playing in the school marching band, or singing and dancing in the swing choir. Those are the experiences and moments that will be held onto by the students there whole lives. All this and more, is why. This I believe in Music.
