I Believe in Being Nice by Selena Sermeno
People are walking down the halls. Some kids are messing around with some other kid. Some girls are calling another a name in the hallway. I do not know why some people choose to be mean to other people but I choose to try and be nice to everyone. I believe in being nice.
I choose to be nice to everyone because I do not know what they go through at home. They could be getting yelled at or hit at home. They do not know me and I don't know them. (Why should I be mean to someone I do not know?) You could ask why be nice if you do not know that person either, but what I believe that there is no point in being mean, but there is a point in being nice. I believe in being nice.
At home I have a pretty good life. My parents are loving and caring. They do not argue like others do. My siblings are sometimes annoying and almost all siblings are that way. You also have no clue what goes on in other people's homes. They could have a bad home life, so the simplest thing you could do to help is just say "Hi". I believe in being nice.
If I am having a bad day, I like it when people asked me what is wrong. It shows that others are watching me and care about me. It feels good when you know someone cares for you. I am usually always making sure everyone is in a good mood and having a good day at school. Just walking down the hall and saying "hey" usually makes my day a little better. I believe in being nice.
What I always think about is how someone could be having a bad life, or maybe not have very many friends, and me saying "Hi", or helping that person with something, could change their life. You may not know that what you did made such a big difference to them, but you could change how they look at things. They could be thinking of doing something stupid or questioning the point of living. They could be thinking that nobody likes them and being nice to that person could save their life. I believe in being nice.
Think of how you could change someone's life or what you could do to make that person's day better. Even if you do not like them, you can still be nice. There really is no point in being mean to people even if they are mean to you. You turn the other cheek. I believe in being nice.
