I Believe in Reading by DeLaney Shafer

I know people who say that they don't like to read. They think it's a waste of time. And they think just because you read that it makes you a nerd. Books have always been misunderstood. I believe in reading.

If there were no such things as libraries or books, I think I would go insane. When I go to the library, I go there to escape everyday life. It's my safe haven. When life gets boring I pick a book I'm reading and I'm whisked away to another world. If I was not allowed to read, my world would become dull and boring.

Books don't have to be true. That's one of the great things about reading. They don't have to be real. You can use your imagination to make the characters and the setting real in your mind. Reading is like escaping from the real world and entering into a completely different world. Anything that can't happen in real life can happen in books. That's one of the great things about reading.

Reading is also a way to challenge you. You can test your reading skills by reading a book that is a little harder to read and see if you can read the whole thing. It's a good way to challenge yourself. You can advance yourself at your own pace. There's no compition to see how many days it will take you to finish a book that is a little harder. You can move at your own pace.

Sometimes books can be turned into movies. You should always read the book before you see the movie, because they can change parts of the book, add new parts, or even leave out parts completely. When you ses the movie, sometimes the characters can look differnt than what you visualized when you read the book. I hear people tell me that the movie was better than the book, or the book was better than the movie, or they saw the movie and they want to read the book. That's the great thing about reading. You use your imagination to see the story in your mind.

The people who say they don't like to read are going to have to read at some point of their life. They're just going to have to get used to reading whether they like it or not. I couldn't imagine why people don't like to read. They can be about anything. It doesn't have to be real. I think people should read more often because you can decide how long you want to read, pick your reading level, and you can always go to the library for more. I believe in reading.
