I Believe in the Power of Sleep by Darrin Blowers

I Believe in the power of sleep. Everyday during my third period American Government class, a certain student gets in trouble for falling asleep. The cause of his drowsiness is lack of sleep the night before. If this student would get to bed at a decent hour, he would not have to catch up on his sleep during any lecture; although I would have to admit that I have nearly fallen asleep during some of the teachers more hypnotizing lectures, but that is another subject.

Lack of sleep is a problem among many high school students. When students attend school having not slept enough one of two things may occur. Lack of sleep causes a student's motivation to be all but incinerated, leading to sloppy work and bad grades. The other effect of tired students is the urge to fall asleep during less interactive classes. A student sleeping in class does not learn the material which is taught that day and thus he or she will not be able to complete any assignments to satisfactory standards.

These same effects on students are also evident in adults who do not get sufficient amounts of sleep. I think that adults are impacted at a higher level than that of students. When an adult is drowsy, they turn to coffee and other methods of stimulation to fight fatigue. They avoid the one thing that their bodies need: sleep. Students on the other hand just submit to the need to recuperate from lack of sleep with the simple remedy of sleeping.

Back to my sleepy classmate in government; if he would get some sleep the night before class his life would be a lot easier, and he may be passing government.
