In Family by Dana Johnson

I believe in family. When I was little I learned how to spell family was Father And Mother I Love You. That got me thinking that even when were little they show us that family should have love in it. well I didn't really know what that meant until I got older. In the year 2001...the word family didn't really mean anything to me. the one day that all changed stays in my mind forever. I am the youngest of the family I have one older brother and one older sister and you can say that I am close to them and that they would stand up for me and be there for me that s what older siblings do. well on that October day I found myself having to be there for my brother. this is the day of the Seward high band bus crash. this is the day the my life changed forever. my outlook on my family changed. when ever year my brothers birthday comes or even when we go to Omaha for the band shows in my years I just think of how lucky I am to still have my family. to have my brother still with me. family could mean so many different things, love, respect, hope, guidance, truth, dreams. I love that I have the family that I do love. yes every once and a while we fight who doesn't. but I know my family will be there for me when I need them. like my sister I know I can talk to her about anything and everything. she will always by my shoulder, my laughing buddy, my dress shopping girl, just my all around anything and everything sister. my brother he is the guy that can always make me laugh or smile, can always get me to be in a better mood, he is the one that when I get down on myself tell me its someone else fault not mine. my parents I know they are there when I need them, I know that I can always talk to them. you don't have that with a lot of parents. I guess what I m really saying is that I love my family and I wouldn't change them for anything in the world. even though most days I look at them and ask if I was adopted because of the way they are. I m glad I m one of the lucky people that got a family like this and I really hope that sometime or another everyone has someone in there life that will be there "family". that will be there shoulder, that will make them smile, that will just be there. as I said in the beginning I learn young that family has to do with love. and now a little bit older I can understand why they started teaching that you us young, for as me just finding out what it means. it takes a while! Yes your family might be weird but love them anyway!
