Coincidence is Just a Word by Amanada Stauffer

I believe that everything happens for a reason. Whether or not I break my leg, my parents win the lottery, or a friend dies, I know that an explanation exists. Sometimes we know why something happens immediately after taking place. Failing a test often results from a lack of studying. Blistering feet is usually a consequence of wearing cute, high-heeled shoes. Unfortunately, many events occur without our understanding. Backing into a car, finding money on the street, or going blind are sometimes unexplainable situations. Not all of these happenings are pleasant; yet not all of them unpleasant. In my lifetime, many occurrences have taken place that I believe have happened for a reason.

One Friday afternoon, I had been in a hurry to leave school. That night, I received a telephone call asking to help work concessions the next morning. Though I was not thrilled at the prospect of waking early, I agreed. When I arrived at school the following day, I realized that I had left my assessment review in my locker. Thankfully, I was able to retrieve my study material for the upcoming test. I am still unsure if the incident happened so I could pass my exam or motivate me to always double check my locker. All I know is that I am still thankful for that late night phone call. Also, about five years ago, my aunt was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, with the help of special treatment, she is still alive and now cancer free. The tumor may have appeared to prod her toward a healthier lifestyle, or maybe suggest living a calmer, more enjoyable life.

I also strongly believe that God has a reason for everything. He has a master plan and everyone serves a purpose. Though we might not always know or understand why something takes place, the Lord does. Another personal experience I have encountered has added to my belief. Kayla was driving to school one morning on the gravel road. Just as she was crossing the intersection, another car came speeding into her. Unfortunately, because of the accident, Kayla died that morning, despite the fact that she had been wearing her seat belt. Kayla's family was angry at the stupidity of the irresponsible driver, and some of her friends still remain confused and upset. Those people closest to Kayla say that her death was unfair; she was young and still had more tasks to accomplish during the next few decades. Fortunately, the majority of Kayla's relatives have been able to overcome their grief, because they know that God has a plan. Somehow, she served her purpose in life and is now being blessed in Heaven. While not knowing why her death came at such a young age might be extremely frustrating, peace can be found by trusting the Lord's decision. Maybe this girl died to caution others driving on country roads to be more careful. Maybe, in some way, this unfortunate accident has helped her family and friends. Possibly, no one will ever know or understand the real reason behind her death. Despite this, I believe with all of my heart that God has a reason.

Everything that happens serves a purpose. Newborn babies die, people fall in and out of love, and violent storms demolish towns. While some say these incidents happen out of luck, whether positive or negative, I know that each and every situation takes place for a reason. Luck is just an explanation for individuals that do not believe or trust that a plan is unfolding. No matter how small and seemingly insignificant or large and extremely significant, a purpose exists.
