I Believe in Individuality by Emily Tempel

I believe in individuality. Everyone is born an individual. But something makes us want to conform in one way or another. Whether it be they way we dress, what we drive or even the way we wear our hair, it's important we all learn to be ourselves. We must believe in ourselves. It takes much of self esteem to be different from the crowd. Without individuality in today's society, the world would be filled with a population of large amounts of followers compared to leaders.

I think the main problem with being individual is conformity. Everyone wants to be like everyone else. We see this most with teenagers. They want to dress like everyone else and drive the same car the popular kids are driving. They also follow what the crowd is doing, whether we think it's right or wrong because of the fear of being different. Remember, to be like other people is to be unlike ourselves!

Individuality also helps us gain self-esteem. We shouldn't have to be afraid to try something different just because no one else is doing it. We should be happy with who we are and we will make better decisions. In my opinion, everyone should take their own road of life. Every mind should think for itself and feel good about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and shouldn't be afraid to express that.

Without individuality in today's society, the world would be filled with followers and not leaders. Where would we go if all we do is follow? Our forefathers were good examples of individuality risking everything to express their opinions. With out them where would society be today? It's important to think for ourselves, be ourselves and act independently from others, It is important to be an individual. I believe in individuality.
